A Look Back On A Growing Past

Sometime in June 2021, the Treedefi team participated in the Bike, Hike, Plant campaign which was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Together with other prestigious organizations invited to the said event we were able to plant together hundreds of trees.

Flash-forward last January 2023, we opted to make a visit to the trees that we have planted in the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center and we were not disappointed with the result of the activity we joined more than a year ago.

What is Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center?

Situated in Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines, the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center is a protected area spanning 23 hectares, named in honor of the late senator Benigno Aquino Jr. The center has a lagoon, an aquarium, a playground, a botanical garden, and a Wildlife Rescue Center. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources uses the center as a temporary shelter for wild animals.

What was the tree planted?

The species of tree planted in the event was the Mussaenda Philippica or famously known by locals as Dona Aurora. It is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and New Guinea. The flowers have white sepals and orange-yellow flowers.

The trees have obviously grown a lot and they are now contributing to the overall aesthetic, health, and environmental aspect of the park. These trees are expected to give shelter to insects, provide shade to the parkgoers and offset the carbon that is being emitted by the busy lifestyle of Quezon City, Philippines.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the Treedefi team is expected to be invited again for the next planting efforts of DENR together with the biggest companies in the Philippines, so keep your eyes peeled for the coming announcements about the next tree planting event.

Final thoughts
Moving forward, the team is continuously breaking ground to make a positive difference both on-chain and off-chain. We are hoping that these small efforts will have a bigger impact on society as we keep on developing and working hard to bring out the best in the Treedefi community.
